Example project: a drone flight controller, from prototype to production

How a flight controller and its sealed wire harness move from first prototype in Silicon Valley to volume production in Vietnam.

This is an example project. It shows how BestSky Industrial handles this type of product; it is not the story of a specific customer.

The product

A lightweight flight controller with a telemetry module, a high-power distribution board, and an IP67 wire harness that connects them inside the airframe.

Where it starts

The team arrives with a schematic and a first layout: the Design in progress path. They upload both and ask for a design review, PCB layout help on the power board, and harness design.

What we do

  • Review the schematic and layout for manufacturability before anything is built
  • Complete the power-distribution layout with attention to current paths and heat
  • Design the harness: connector selection, sealing, and routing
  • Build the first boards and harnesses in Silicon Valley, where prototype orders can ship in as fast as 24 to 72 hours with no minimum quantity
  • Inspect every board with 3D AOI and X-ray, and test every harness for continuity

Moving to production

Once the design is locked, the same engineering team moves the build to our Vietnam facilities for volume production. Boards are assembled to IPC-A-610 and harnesses to IPC-A-620.

What to send us for a project like this

  • Schematic and PCB layout, or Gerber and ODB++ files if the layout is final
  • Bill of materials with manufacturer part numbers
  • A harness sketch or drawing with connector part numbers
