Example project: an automotive telemetry unit and its wiring harness

How a vehicle telemetry module and a custom harness are built and tested together so they fit the first time.

This is an example project. It shows how BestSky Industrial handles this type of product; it is not the story of a specific customer.

The product

A vehicle telemetry unit with a CAN bus interface, plus the custom wiring harness that connects it to the vehicle.

Where it starts

The board design is finished but the harness exists only as a pinout table. The customer chooses PCB assembly and Cable and wire harness, uploads the board files, and attaches the pinout.

What we do

  • Assemble the telemetry board and inspect it with 3D AOI and X-ray
  • Turn the pinout into a full harness drawing: wire gauges, lengths, connectors, seals, and labels
  • Build the harness to IPC-A-620 and test every circuit for continuity
  • Mate board and harness and test them as a set before shipping

Prototype, then volume

First units are built in Silicon Valley so changes can be made quickly. When the design is stable, production moves to Vietnam in flexible batch sizes.

What to send us for a project like this

  • Gerber or ODB++ files, bill of materials, and pick-and-place file
  • A harness drawing, or a pinout and connector part numbers if no drawing exists yet
  • Any environmental or sealing requirements
